Flu Widespread with Highest Number of Seasonal Cases Ever Reported by December
ADHS Public Health Officials Encourage Everyone to Get Vaccinated

PHOENIX – Flu is widespread in Arizona with 2,629 more cases reported than this time last year, the Arizona Department of Health Services announced today. As of Dec. 20, there have been 2,976 cases of flu reported compared to 347 for the same time period in 2016, which is a 758 percent increase in flu activity.

eWIC Makes it Easier for Families to Get Healthy Foods

The Arizona Department of Health Services has completed a multi-year effort to launch an electronic system called eWIC that replaces paper checks with a card for families that participate in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program.

WIC families can also download the EzWIC app for Apple and Android devices. This app will allow them to search the WIC Food List, scan items in the store to see if they are WIC-approved, and check their current benefit balance.

Food Recall: Herb Ox Beef Bouillon

Creative Contract Packaging LLC is voluntarily recalling 4,412 cases, or 13,236 total pounds, of two code dates of HERB-OX® Beef Flavor Granulated Bouillon, due to the potential presence of an undeclared milk allergen.

Consumers who are allergic to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

Trader Joe’s Chicken & Turkey Salad Recall

Green Cuisine, a San Fernando, Calif. establishment, is recalling approximately 36,854 pounds of chicken and turkey salad products that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically hard silica and glass fragments, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.
The ready-to-eat chicken and turkey salads were produced from Nov. 4 - 15, 2017. The following products are subject to recall:

Tres Latin Foods is voluntarily recalling two batches of production of Kale & Pinto Bean 10 oz. pupusas and one batch of its Black Bean & Sweet Corn pupusas due to an undeclared milk allergen. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. There have been no reports of illness to date.
